Spurred by the urgency of the climate crisis and its impact on current and future generations, and working in New York City - the largest school district in the United States, with 75,000 teachers serving 1.1 million students - the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) launched the Climate and Resilience Education Task Force in May 2018 (cretf.org).
The Task Force is managed in partnership with WE ACT for Environmental Justice. Comprised of educators, policymakers, NGOs, and a Youth Steering Committee of high school students, the CRETF is dedicated to increasing access to interdisciplinary climate and resilience education and associated professional learning opportunities in New York's K-12 schools.
CRETF is working on passage of a climate education bill for New York State - S278A/A1559A - that was drafted by its intergenerational policy committee.
The Task Force hosts public meetings, forums and community events and welcomes new members on a rolling basis.
