What we do

The Electrify NYC! Team is dedicated to help New Yorkers reduce their air and climate pollution by electrifying their homes and transport while sourcing renewable electricity to run it all! About 3/4 of New Yorker’s climate pollution comes from these sources alone.

And by eliminating fossil fuels from your life, you will also improve the health, comfort and economics of your home and transport.

Gas Appliances to Electric!

Incentive Guide

Check out our handy guide showing how we can reduce our climate pollution by electrifying our homes and transport and sourcing renewable electricity with the help of federal, New York State and utility incentives.

The section on home electrification is relevant for single family homes.

Anyone who lives in an apartment should check out the apartment dwellers guide below!

apartment dweller’s Guide

As an apartment dweller, you might feel that your options to reduce air and climate pollution are limited. The good news is that you already likely produce less air and climate pollution than most Americans. NYC residents produce approximately 11 metric tons of CO2e annually compared to the 17-20 metric tons for the average American, likely due to apartment living and use of public transportation.

But there are simple steps you can take to further reduce air and climate pollution, which can also make your home healthier and save you money. Check out our apartment dwellers' guide which highlights 5 quick steps that reduce your apartment's energy use, source clean renewable electricity and clean up your transport emissions.

When you finish these, there are other steps you can take - like wasting less food, eating less meat or recycling refrigerants properly. To learn about all the solutions, check out Project Drawdown’s Solution List. Or take Project Drawdown’s Climate Solutions 101.

LL97 compliance: NYC accelerator

The NYC Accelerator provides free resources, training, and one-on-one expert guidance to help building owners and industry professionals improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions from buildings in NYC.

GAS STOVE pollution testing

As the chart shows, gas stoves produce dangerous amounts of pollution that harm the health of those living in your home. This is scary, but the pollution can be mitigated by opening windows, running the vent and other measures highlighted in this guide.

If you can, it is best to change your gas stove to an electric stove which doesn’t burn fossil fuels inside your home and as such are much safer and healthier. You can find a useful webinar on induction. stoves here.

We are doing gas stove pollution testing for a scientific research study. If you would like us to test your gas stove, contact us at climatereality.chapter@gmail.com.
